Spotlight on Urolithin A

It’s normal to lose some of your usual pace as you get older, but did you know this could be partly due to a decline in your cellular health?

As you age, important natural processes in your cells begin to lose their efficiency and many of these changes can be linked back to your mitochondria.

What is Urolithin A?

Urolithin A, or UA, is a cellular nutrient that can help to address a decline in your cells’ ability to renew their pool of mitochondria.

UA is not commonly found in food, it is a metabolite formed by gut bacteria when we eat foods such as pomegranates, berries and nuts, which contain compounds known as ellagitannins. However, only one in three people have the gut bacteria needed to efficiently transform these compounds into UA.

What are Mitochondria?

Mitochondria are the power plants of our cells, producing the energy that fuels our body every day. Efficient mitochondrial function is important for maintaining muscle strength as you age, so declines in mitochondrial health may be one reason why you’re starting to feel like you’re missing some of your usual pace.

Some of the key roles of the mitochondria include:

  • Transforming food into energy our cells can use
  • Regulating the level of calcium in cells. The right level of calcium is necessary to ensure normal function of muscles and nerves

Mitochondria are the powerhouses of our cells, but their function can decline with age. When mitochondria become damaged though aging or oxidative stress, our cellular energy production can be impacted.

Our cells have a natural quality control process, called mitophagy, which recycles mitochondria that are no longer performing well. However, this process declines with age, which can lead to accumulation of dysfunctional mitochondria within cells. Urolithin A activates mitophagy to help cleanse your cells of damaged mitochondria.

Cellular Strength: A Source of Urolithin A

Celltrient Strength Drink Mixes and Dietary Supplement Capsules contain Mitopure™ a proprietary form of UA that helps activate your body’s natural processes to support the renewal of mitochondria. It has been clinically shown to support mitochondrial health in muscles.

Our Celltrient Strength Drink Mixes also contain magnesium, which plays an essential role in regulating the contraction and relaxation of muscles.

Celltrient Strength works in sync with the body’s natural cellular processes to help transform how your cells perform with age, to help them to keep up with you.
